I will probably continue using the in-game mapping anyway as this seems more intuitive than the software – but nice to know that the software isn’t broken so I can use that method if desired. I also tested the software mapping in notepad as they suggested & all worked OK. I was presuming that any changes made in the software would reflect in the in-game button mapping and vice-versa (ie that any mapping done from within WoW would display in the software interface). Steelseries replied to my ticket - disabling the “Enable in-game mode” option did the trick – I didn’t realise that the “Enable in-game mode” is mutually exclusive of the Steelseries software. I have an open ticket with Steelseries at the moment - 7 days ago & am still waiting for a reply to reolve this issue. I can modify other setting tho - eg the pulsing light & tracking speed. Released: ) & it has rectified the character retreival issue woth WoW Armory, however the buttons to remap remain inactive so I cannot remap any buttons (in the help file they show as red, whereas mine show grey). I have downloaded & installed the latest (Version: 1.08. I have had the same problem with my new mouse - I can map the buttons fine inside WoW, but the steelseries software outside the game does not work correctly. The first mouse is a paperweight now due to the static discharge issue, and I'm still fiddling with the second one regarding the USB recognition issue. My guess is that this has something to do with the gold plating on the Cataclysm mouse's USB connector. I have to unplug and then replug them in the USB port to get them to be recognized. Second, both mice I've had don't want to be recognized at boot up. Thank God the mouse ate the charge and it didn't reach my MOBO. Last week, I walked to my computer across carpet, reached for this mouse, and static electricity discharged from my finger to the mouse, killing it. First, it is highly (as in HIGHLY) susceptible to static discharge. But even on that mouse I found out that Im only ever using two buttons, lol. But it doesnt quite live up to Steelseries quality (not entirely unexpected, lets face it its called WoW Cataclysm). The SteelSeries Cataclysm WoW MMO Gaming Mouse that has 14 of the most wonderfully programmable buttons one person could ask for and usually more than youll need. The only 'MMO' mouse I have used thats come close to being actually comfortable is the Steelseries WoW Cataclysm mouse. Just disregard that picture and instead focus on the remaining 4 pictures and THAT device is what youre getting. There are some issues with this mouse (I'm on my second one). THAT picture is of the older SteelSeries WoW MMO Mouse. Remember, that you have to click the "Apply" button to save your changes, but the software should warn you that you haven't done that if you try to exit the program before doing so. If those work and yours don't you have isolated part of the issue. the mouse ships with default key bindings that you should check first. Not sure why your key bindings won't work but.
#STEELSERIES WOW MOUSE CANT BIND UPDATE#
What other mouses or brands out there are more like the WoW gaming mouses, and less like the Razer Naga kind of layout? I've tried googling and everyone just recommends a razer naga but I strongly dislike that kind of layout.A driver update was released 27 DEC 10 that should fix the WoW character profile issue, which was caused when Blizzard changed the web address of the armory. The Rival 500 comes closest but lacks the pinky, so I'm wondering about other options as well. Looking on Steelseries site they have some stuff that's more in this style of course, but nothing with a similar layout of 5 on your thumb, 5 on the face by the normal mouse buttons (2 on each side of right and left click, one below mousewheel), and one on your pinky. I've yet to find a suitable replacement that is actually still produced.
I know it's no marvel of engineering in terms of precision, but I love the layout. You will never need a key for Turn Left and Turn Right - dont even bother rebinding them. The first thing that you should do if you havent already, is bind Strafe Left to 'A' and Strafe Right to 'D'. The default key bindings are not set up properly for this. My favorite mouse I've ever used, the WoW Cataclysm Steelseries mouse, has been out of production long enough that it's not easily replaceable. The best way to move your character is use W, A, S, and D in combination with the mouse. I have trouble using mouses that have all of the buttons on your thumb, and prefer to have them all over the mouse to reduce my thumb strain, and engage my entire hand, which I've found keeps me more focused. So I'm a big fan of the WoW Steelseries mouses.
